It’s time for another addition to your arsenal of home gym equipment. In previous posts (namely unique bodyweight exercises part 2) you would have seen the exercise ball being used a few times for exercises such as crunches. There are other exercises you will be using this ball for such as side bends and leg presses, but the abdominals will be the key body part that you will work on the most with the exercise ball.

Since this site has been up, it has been made aware to me that the abs are the no.1 area that most of you want to train, whether you are trying to lose fat to get it to show, or are simply trying to get the the ripped ‘ I’ve eaten a radiator’ look.

Some of you have complained about lower back problems too, from doing normal floor sit ups. Using the Xercise ball will solve that problem as performing the same or similar exercises with the ball will give you a greater range of motion (how far you can stretch). If you are lost when it comes to knowing how to perform the exercises you have seen so far, then hold tight, that will be included in the ebook as well.

So for those who don’t yet have one of these, or are intending to get one since viewing the bodyweight exercises posts, this is the one I’ve been using.

Through out this site have often stated my dislike for supplements and steroids as i believe you can achieve great results with what nature has to offer. But that same former body builder i told you about in this post (Forearms) is the one who introduced this to me.

At first i was very hesitant to even try it, but i have always lived by the rule ‘try anything once’, so i gave it a shot. I already knew what creatine does to the body, but i can say that trying this for a short while was great. I didn’t suffer any side effects that everyone usually goes on about and i think as long as you currently eat healthy and train regularly you’ll be just fine. There is no one great life changing product out there, not even this does that, but you will notice an increase in strength and muscle mass when you use it.

I guess this is good for all of those readers here that are like me and usually do not touch this stuff. If that is you, I’d try it once at least. And for any body building types reading this then you already know what to do. Have fun with it but be moderate,.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet, because there is a video to watch after my little ramble here.

Now… that headline goes hand in hand with most of the video interviews I conducted with last year, with the likes of Miryah Jade Scott, Natalia Muntean, Kelly Rennie and others. Stay-Fit Bug does focus on the male reader first and foremost. However, the site also began to attract some female readers too. Most probably because of the related fitness ‘lifestyle’ topics that I have previously covered.

But over time I have come to learn that women want to look a certain way, and quite frankly screw their face up when they look at images of certain lady fitness pros.

These women who I have shown the images to don’t want the masculine 6 pacs and the overly ripped arms. They want to look like women ‘in shape’, and look like… well… women.

I haven’t really had the time to look into creating a product that solves that problem. But Rusty Moore has (Rusty is the author of the website fitnessbackbook.com and who I work with closely regarding web businesses and other aspects surrounding that).

You Need To Lose Fat First To Build Muscle!

I have been having a lot of conversations with many of you around the Stay-Fit Bug community in recent weeks and I have found out some cool things for sure.

I have been told that…

#1 The site is very usable, organized and information is easy to find ( Yet I’m still planning to keep on improving it).

#2 The information is easy to understand and not too technical (Especially for noobs a/k/a newbies – A readers words, not mine).

#3 The site kicks their ass (Good, it’s supposed to! Train insane anyone?).

I’ve been told that quite often, fitness articles are too technical and have been written by a complete bofin (Nerd that doesn’t understand real people). So I’m happy that Stay-Fit Bugs ‘day one’ goal has come across well since inception.

Another thing I found is that many of you don’t have a high metabolism and that losing that extra layer of fat around your waist, lower abs, chest or thighs is a common goal for many of you, even though you aren’t fat per se. You just want the complete million dollar look (As pictured above), and so you should.

Now, if you are reading then there is a good chance that you may have read the Build A 6 Pac: From Flab To Flat ebook which contained the information that shows you what you need to do if your goal is to lose fat or to build muscle, regardless of your body type ( Turn to page 7). But you can’t do both at the same time.


Because what you are actually asking your body to do is break down fat and build muscle at the same time, which just confuses the hell out of it. You see, to lose fat you need to restrict your calories or expend more than needed for you to stay at your current weight, but that also means there are no calories for your body to use to build muscle. So no go. It’s do one or the other.

Note: The key here NOT to lose so much weight that causes you to fail at building lean muscle.

The goal here is fat loss and all of you facing the above scenario will obviously be at different stages in your progression. The ebook may have given you some key pointers, such as the ’12 great foods for abs’ , the exercises involved with that and how to go about structuring your workouts based on your body type. But I think you may need a more comprehensive guide than that to reach your ultimate goal. Or at least a guide you can refer to against what you’re currently doing. #3 Make sure you look out for No.1!

I already know that many of you aspire to do great things, regardless of your age and background, and you really should strive to do what you love and go big with it where you can and where the opportunity arises.

And why the hell not!

It is your life after all. It is a great thing to be making a difference on this planet we call earth, whether that be helping others or any other thing that is deemed great. But the ultimate rule still stands

Look out for number 1

For a couple of reasons

1) You can’t plan to help anyone unless you have some solid foundation or backbone to your entirety. You don’t have to be the complete person that you wish to be, no. But some part of your being needs to be solid. Usually in the form of knowledge or Personal wealth.

2) Change is a guaranteed constant in this world and the life you see before your eyes today may not be the life you see tomorrow. People come and go, circumstances change and many other things. Because of this you need to be ready. You need to do you and adjust when these things happen. Nobody likes it and there’s not much we can do about it, but this is another reason why you need to look out for no.1, because the only ones that will be left standing will be those that are true to YOU when that change does come.

There are loads of books out there that you can read that can guide you on this path, and I’ve mentioned one of the good ones here too (@ Law of Attraction). But everything mentioned here is what I would consider the ‘core’ start of what you need to do if your goal is to improve yourself for wealth and riches… not just a rocking body. Or you could just simply go with the flow, not take yourself ‘too’ seriously and live a great and happy bodybuilding lifestyle, which in the end is all that really matters.

Which Multi-Vitamins to Buy?

Going back to what I mentioned earlier, our bodies need to be fed correctly if we wish to build REAL muscle. This can be done by eating GOOD food 5 – 7 times a day. But to take your muscles to the next level you really do have to supplement them to the next level. Real food is good, but it won’t be enough. Before I picked this book up, I did do a lot of searching around as there are a lot of ‘bad’ books out there and this wasn’t a usual recommendation from a friend. The first thing I noticed is that the books format is like a ‘cookbook’ and a ‘manual’ and if you are a single guy/girl or not a good cook like myself… I’d say, get this book! The authors are the main reason I like this book. They go out of their way to give step-by-step guidance on how to actually process the meals outlined properly.

And Beyond…

Now, here’s a quote that I have used endlessly on this site and around the web

‘Always keep a good diet when using bodybuilding supplements. No protein supplement can replace a bad diet. it will only fill the body full of nutrients that it may lack.’

For you long term readers, I’m going to answer the question that I know you are about to ask.

But Shaun, didn’t you tell us that it would be enough if we ate 5-7 meals a day for our bodybuilding workouts?

Yes, I did!

But the reality is, you probably won’t stick to that week in week out, without having a day where you don’t eat 5-7 meals. This is especially true in this current day and age where most of us live very busy lives. I know for a fact that I don’t stick to 6 meals a day, EVERYDAY. I never have been able to, without making it feel like a chore. So how do you solve the problem?

By Taking Supplements

I’ve talked about supplements before on this site and you will find some talk about them in every other article. What I do try to do is talk about the supplements that actually work best from my own experience. in turn, that recommendation will help you save time and money, from having to test evey single supplement out there, and we all know there are MANY.

Another reason for choosing the ‘right supplements’ is to do some good for the economy. Instead of buying ‘this’ supplement and ‘that’ supplement, every other week. Choose a supplement that meets all of your needs and then by it in bulk. That will help keep fuel costs and packaging costs down as a whole. And again, that will help save you money. I don’t mean to sound like an environmentalist, but it’s always good to have the worlds best interest at heart.

Supplements = Speed

In addition to providing your body full of nutrients that it may lack, supplements will also provide your muscles with speedy growth.

We all know that our muscles need to be fed and then re-fed in order to grow. But they need to be re-fed efficiently. Supplements provide the foundation of that process.

What Your Body Needs

I have talked about what you need to take, what exercises you need to do and how you can tweak them. But I never have really talked about what your body ‘needs’ as a whole, in terms of supplement in take.

The Basics

You need a meal replacement shake

You need a high quality multivitamin

You need some vitamin C

How much?

For a bodybuilding person like yourself, around 3000 milligrams daily. The key thing to do here is just to make sure that you are reaching that amount throughout the course of the day.

Then you need a protein supplement

People may argue back and fourth

‘Your body needs supplements’

‘No… if you eat the right foods, your body does not need supplements’

And some may argue that they can be dangerous, which is true. But not if you,

  1. Choose the right supplements
  2. Follow manufacturers instructions

But the reality is, you will need to take supplements in some way or form if you are taking up bodybuilding. If you don’t, you may find that your result building efforts may just be a long hard slog. But hey, to each their own.
